Shown here in 1913, Vancouver’s other “hollow tree”. It was removed in the early 1930’s without any public consultation or debate.

While there is no longer a hollow tree in Hastings Park, note that Stanley Park’s famous hollow tree still stands and is protected by the Vancouver Parks Board. Notably, Stanley Park nearly had its Hollow Tree removed by the City in 2009 due to safety concerns. It was ultimately preserved through the efforts of a community group raising sufficient private donations to stabilize the tree.
