Sept 24th: RALLY at City Hall – neighbourhood planning processes are “broken”

Please join your neighbours from across Vancouver on Tuesday, September 24th at 5:45 PM, to attend this rally that is being organized by a broad coalition of concerned Vancouver residents. Many people, in all communities/neighbourhoods across Vancouver are being affected by what seems to be developer driven decisions and power grabs being made at City Hall. Involved and active citizens representing their communities are being ignored and betrayed by City Hall.

The purpose of the rally is to show City Hall the extent of concern across the City. Friends of Hastings Park and others in Hastings-Sunrise are being negatively affected by City Council decisions made with no regard for our Community. Recent examples include decommissioning Hastings Park as a public park, removing the historical right of Hastings Community Center Association to run community driven programs, zoning changes along Hastings Street, and intensifying truck traffic through residential areas on the east side, among other concerns expressed by Hastings Sunrise residents. (see our close neighbours of Grandview-Woodland blogging about this event, and read the news item in this week’s Georgia Straight)

If you can, please attend this rally. If you have a noise maker or a sign, please bring these. We need to be loud and visible. Contact if you are driving or looking for a ride from the Hastings-Sunrise area, as we will try to facilitate carpooling.
