Celebrating a successful STAND for Hastings Park

Congratulations to all who came out on June 29th! What a great team effort this has been. We had about 50 people at the STAND which is a very respectable turnout for a long weekend. We invited all City Councillors and Park Board Commissioners to a Walk through the Park, prior to the Stand. It was a powerful experience, with each Hastings Park supporter adding key information about the many aspects that reveal the need for Park Board governance. This is the message we are preparing to bring to Council soon.

We were very happy that City Councillor Adrianne Carr accepted our invitation to come to the Walk. Below is a comment and photo that appeared on her Twitter feed: “Why was I the only elected rep present for briefing by 4 community groups on Hastings Pk? #fb #vanpoli pic.twitter.com/tClL95C4VG

Thanks to all the FOHP members who helped organize the walk and picnic (particularly Linda Y, Sherry, Darci, Armin, Pat, Mary, and Michelle), as well as members of Nature Vancouver (Al and Jeremy) who also helped out.

Our Banner got up, even if it was not on the spot we wanted. It was very successful in getting us a lot of press! What the media may not show is the police making us stop, while PNE security choked a bit when someone asked him why the Marijuana people could put up a balloon, no problem, but we can’t put up a banner!

Check out one of our members, giving the police ‘what for’ when they said we couldn’t even use the pole for our sign!

A few of us shared a picnic afterward, and wow was that watermelon perfect! Thanks to Michelle for organizing all the stuff for this relaxing part of the day.

All in all a great day! Stay tuned for our upcoming City Hall event…
