May Park Board initiative celebrated 2nd annual Migratory Bird Day, drawing public to Hastings Park Sanctuary

The Friends of Hastings Park congratulate the Vancouver Park Board for initiating City participation in this International event, by creating a series of nature and bird walks in multiple parks across Vancouver that took place on May 12th, and for inviting the Hastings Park Conservancy to take part by hosting one of these walks in the unique Hastings Park Sanctuary. Over 30 nature lovers and birders attended the walk at Hastings Park that day.

Our community wants Park Board control over Hastings Park like all other permanent parks in Vancouver. This is an example of how Park Board programming and events encourage community use of Parks. The lessons: restore a natural habitat and the birds and animals will come; put Park Board in charge and they will ensure community use and enjoyment of natural habitats.
